Equipmake HPM-400: 400 kW High-Speed Electric Motor

The Equipmake HPM-400 is a high-power, high-speed electric motor developed for short-duration applications where a large amount of power must be delivered from a compact motor. Equipmake specifically identifies rocket fuel pumps and other aerospace applications as suitable uses for the HPM-400.

The motor delivers a maximum power output of 400 kW while weighing only 30 kg. Maximum motor speed is 20,000 rpm, considerably higher than many conventional traction motor applications, while maximum torque is rated at 250 Nm. An associated inverter is specified at 10 kg.

This combination of relatively high rotational speed and substantial power output reflects the HPM-400’s intended role as a high-power, short-duration motor rather than a conventional low-speed traction motor.

Thermal management uses a water/glycol cooling circuit, with the datasheet specifying a coolant temperature of 60°C. Cooling is particularly important in a motor intended to reach 20,000 rpm and deliver up to 400 kW during demanding operating periods.

The performance chart on page 1 provides additional insight into the motor’s operating envelope at 400 V. Torque remains around the 250 Nm level through much of the lower and medium speed range before falling at higher rotational speeds. At the same time, power rises progressively with motor speed, reaching its highest level towards the upper part of the operating range.

Page 2 of the product leaflet summarises the HPM-400 through four core figures: a 30 kg motor mass, 400 kW peak power, 250 Nm peak torque and maximum speed of 20,000 rpm.

These characteristics distinguish the HPM-400 within Equipmake’s motor portfolio. Rather than prioritising extremely high torque at low speeds, the motor combines high rotational speed with very high power output, making it particularly relevant to specialist aerospace and other short-duration high-power applications.
