Equipmake HTM-3500: High-Torque Motor for Heavy Commercial Vehicles

The Equipmake HTM-3500 is a high-torque, low-speed electric motor developed for heavy commercial vehicle applications. Unlike high-speed electric motors that require substantial reduction gearing, the HTM-3500 is designed for direct drive to the prop shaft. This makes its combination of low rotational speed and very high torque a defining characteristic of the product.

In single-motor configuration, the HTM-3500 delivers maximum power of 400 kW and maximum torque of 3,500 Nm. Maximum motor speed is 3,500 rpm. The motor weighs 195 kg and measures 540 mm in diameter, 251 mm in width and 607 mm in height.

Cooling is provided by a water/glycol circuit operating at a specified coolant temperature of 60°C. Equipmake gives a typical coolant flow rate of 30 litres per minute.

A significant characteristic of the HTM-3500 platform is its modular configuration. The motor is available as either a single or tandem unit. When configured as a tandem system, the available power and torque are doubled. This allows the same underlying motor architecture to address different commercial vehicle power requirements.

The performance charts on page 2 demonstrate how the motor behaves across DC supply voltages of 600 V, 650 V, 700 V and 750 V. Maximum and continuous torque curves are shown separately. The graphs illustrate the motor’s strong low-speed torque characteristics, followed by declining torque as shaft speed increases. A second chart shows the corresponding power curves across the operating range.

Equipmake explicitly describes the HTM-3500’s high-torque, low-speed characteristics as being particularly suited to heavy commercial vehicles.

With 3,500 Nm of maximum torque available from a single unit, 400 kW of maximum power and a direct-drive architecture, the HTM-3500 provides a propulsion option focused on the requirements of larger vehicles where substantial torque is required directly at the driveline.
