Equipmake has developed a custom direct-drive SPM motor and IGBT inverter system for Vertical Aerospace’s pioneering electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The design included forward and aft casing versions to enable smooth transition from vertical to horizontal flight, a key requirement in the eVTOL sector, which is projected to be worth $30.8 billion globally by 2033.

Equipmake’s advanced Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) was deployed in Vertical Aerospace’s prototype during its first successful untethered flight test, marking Equipmake’s entry into the rapidly expanding eVTOL market.

Each EPU integrates a lightweight, high-power electric motor with a high-performance inverter, developed and manufactured entirely in-house.
