DE UITDAGING:
Gilmour Space Technologies, an Australian launch services provider, required a high-performance electric motor and inverter solution for a critical onboard application within its launch vehicles. The system needed to meet extreme constraints around weight, packaging, and reliability—while delivering the performance required for spaceflight environments. Off-the-shelf solutions were not viable due to the unique demands of aerospace launch systems.
DE OPLOSSING:
Equipmake developed a bespoke high-speed electric motor and inverter system tailored specifically for onboard aerospace application. The solution featured a 20,000 rpm motor paired with a pressurised silicon carbide (SiC) inverter, enabling exceptional power density in a compact, lightweight package.
Five systems were integrated per launch vehicle, with a total of 21 units produced and delivered. The pressurised inverter design ensured optimal thermal and electrical performance while maintaining minimal mass—critical for launch efficiency and payload optimization.

HOOGTEPUNTEN VAN HET PROJECT:
- Bespoke 20,000 rpm motor and inverter system engineered for spaceflight
- Advanced SiC inverter technology for high efficiency and compact packaging
- Pressurised design enabling reduced mass and improved reliability
- Five systems deployed per vehicle
- 21 total units delivered to support initial launch program
- Supporting imminent first launch of Gilmour Space vehicle
WAT DE KLANT TE ZEGGEN HAD:
“It goes without saying that delivering rockets into space is an exceptionally demanding exercise, and one which allows for little margin for error. With a flexible, agile approach and ‘can-do’ attitude in completing the design, build and test of this new electric motor, the team at Equipmake has been great to work with.”
